    It's great.

Works perfect, it's on 3.15 firmware, the disc drive works, the controllers work, everything works. It's backward compatible with PS2 and PS1. There's no dust inside of it. It still works on the PSN network. The fans do start to speed up slightly after not long of being turned on (I'm not sure but I think this may be normal for FAT models). But one thing that worried me is a slight zap sound I heard after turning off the switch at the back. I also experienced a mild tingling sensation from touching the on/off part. I'm not sure if this was due to static electricity or what but it hasnt happened since and I now use the controller to turn it on and off. I also purchased a USB fan, and laptop cooling pad which I also use to keep it cool. Great product and good price.

PS3 Only Works Some of the Time

The PS3 is in good physical shape, but doesn't work all the time. It freezes up during a game or the screen goes black after 10-15 mins and I have to power cycle it to get it to work again. I don't hear the fan getting loud, so doubt it's a heating issue. I'm taking it to a repair shop this week to have it looked at and hopefully fixed so it will be a stable system capable of playing games again.

  • PERFORMANCE ROCKS ... PS1 & PS2 BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE ... GREAT PRODUCT !

the PS3 80G model #CECHE01 is the perfect solution for anyone who wants a PS3 console, but also wants backwards compatibility with PS2 & PS1 games. the secret is do not let your unit overheat, and the way to ensure that is operate it in a normal environment (house temperature, not outside temperature), and the best way to ensure that is keep it clean, do NOT lets dust accumulate (i feather dust my console once/week and keep it covered with a small towel). this is the best overall console i've ever owned, understood the newer consoles are much richer, but this beast delivers amazing graphics, has all the features and game play a person needs, and the backwards compatibility is a HUGE add for anyone who wants to leverage the value locked up in their library of PS1 & PS2 games.

  • Awesome value for three generations of PlayStation

Original released PlayStation 3 console. Working in great condition. Compatible with the entire family of PlayStation One and PS2 games. Firmware at 3.55 for modders to tweak with (I am thinking of getting someone do this for me). And, all for under $300. Nothing is a better deal than this. The Xbox One or the PlayStation 4 can't even dream of such a huge game library. And online is still supported, and FREE, of all things. The PS3's XMB is one of the cleanest and easiest to use UI in any console. The only thing going against this console is the original's hard drive space, at a paltry 60GB. Nothing much there, but easy to upgrade; just get a 2.5" 500GB SSD, format it to FAT32 for the PS3 to recognize, install, and go. Another gripe that is against all PlayStation 3 consoles, is the atrocious update process. Every game, has to first download, and then install updates, one at a time. Especially infuriating when there are huge 4+GB of updates and the connection to the network drops for any random reason. If anyone wants a PS3, they can definitely get it at half or even a third of the price, no problem. However, I feel that this release model PS3 is the perfect one for gamers with a huge library of PlayStation games of the past, and little shelf space for multiple consoles.

  • A Legendary console that will only become harder to find.

This is the one PS3 you want if you care about backwards compatibility, Europe never got it, Japan never got it. Only the Launch PS3s and the MGS4 bundle have the model number CECH-A01. Feel free to google some of the later revisions with Emotion Engine (the gpu in the PS2) emulation and the difference is clear. Some PS2 games were not tested using method and if you're a collector of the platform then it's bound to rear its ugly head at some point. Games also load slightly faster on the platform and the since the PS3 uses modern 2.5' HDDs, you can even put modern storage like SSDs in this thing to increase performance (granted it uses SATA2 so you'll never achieve the full speed of the drive but it's a noticeable bumb) there is also a smoothing function built into the PS3 which like anti-aliasing and smooths out edges better than $300 upscale devices like the Framemeister! 480p games look great and hold up surprisingly well and even 240p content like the original Silent Hill on PS1 look good and don't have any of the audio glitches that the later emulation consoles are prone to (this also applies to the digital downloads on the PS store) TLDR this things are becoming more rare for a reason, they may not have the longest life span, but treat it well and it will treat you well. This thing can play games from 1994-2018. There will never be a console like the Launch PS3 ever again.

  • Awesome system, just don’t let it overheat, modifications can also improve experience

This console has so many features, it’s an excellent all in one system. I’ve played ps1 ps2 and ps3 games and they all run well. It can video stream and it’s got a massive amount of ports on it. The only problems with the device are the ones most people probably know about, the overheating, fan noise, charging controllers, and small storage. It’s very important you place this in a well vented and cool area since it is prone to overheating and destroying itself. This can also help with decreasing noise as it can reduce fan speed. I’d also recommend upgrading the 60gb hard drive to a cheaper ssd. You won’t benefit much from buying a top of the line ssd but cheaper ones can definitely improve load times. Plus more storage is always a benefit. Thankfully switching out drives is made very easy, just make sure you properly format your new drive. Lastly, the DualShock 3 only charges when plugged into the ps3 itself and not a regular wall charger. There are special charging docks you can get elsewhere but it’d be nice if you could just plug them into the wall with a regular charger. All in all, as long as you’re willing to accommodate some of its quirks and find one that hasn’t been heavily used, it’s an excellent system for all your older PlayStation games. As a side note, if you have a psp go and a psp go cradle, you can connect a DualShock 3 to it and basically turn your psp go into a dockable handheld like the Nintendo switch.

  • It's amazing but...

It's a good used product but it has one flaw. It's hard to get the disc out, it takes at least 5 times to get a decent piece of the disc to be pulled out.

  • The Ps3 fat is for collectors

An interesting piece of technology rare and obscure on the laps time of the history of the game consoles. The sony PS3 fat is fun game console only for collectors. The good: backwards capability, tons of external connections, beautiful design, hackable, plays Super Audio CD!!! The bad: heavy, noisy and gets hot

  • Awesome!

I’ve been wanting an original ps3 since release and finally having a job gave me the option to finally buy one even though I’m a few years late... Being able to play ps1, ps2, and ps3 is so awesome for the package! Surprisingly not as dusty as I thought it be and warranty seal hasn’t been broken. Fan does crank up though but having a ps4 for so long the sound is pretty much the same. Other than that, awesome product I wish was still being made
