Pretty good for a refurbished chair

The chair is your pretty standard steel case leap v2 chair, which is super comfortable, ergonomic, and adjustable for your needs. This specific refurbished chair though has new padding on the back/seat, which is definitely not as good or as comfortable as the original steelcase chair, and different material being used for the armrests — which is also doesn’t feel as good/strong as the original. Also, important note!!! When putting the gas cylinder into the base & the seat — make sure to line up the yellow arrows!! I didn’t at first and wasn’t able to adjust the seat height. Removing the gas cylinder is a huge pain and extremely difficult. There’s a note that comes with the chair which I totally ignored, which I wish I read. Still a very good deal on a platinum steelcase leap v2. Incredibly hard to find one at this price.

    Not Great, Just Ok

For those who aren't familiar with it, this is a refurbished/reupholstered Steelcase Leap chair. The chair looks nice enough, but despite its numerous adjustments, I can't find a position for it that's truly comfortable. The seat has a slight forward tilt to it that I can't get rid of (the lip adjustment on the front of the seat doesn't change the overall angle). The upholstery on the seat also feels a little uneven, and in fact looks uneven if you look at the chair carefully from the front. I bought this chair to replace a wooden kitchen chair that I had been using at the desk in my office. Compared to that, this chair is a great improvement. What's not great is the value for money equation. If I had bought this chair for $100 I would have said it's not perfect, but it'll do fine for a while until I find something I like better. But I didn't pay $100 for it, I paid $300. Three hundred dollars buys a LOT of office chair. The one I use at work has far fewer adjustments, but is actually more comfortable and probably cost half what I paid for this one. I broke my cardinal rule of furniture buying: Never buy a chair you haven't sat in, and now I'm regretting it. I didn't want to take time from from a busy schedule to go to one of the few office furniture stores that carry high end brands like Steelcase, so I bought the chair mail order hoping that a big discount on a famous chair would solve my home office chair problem at a reasonable price. Didn't work out.

  • Not New - But Worth it for the Price

The packaging was somewhat lackluster, everything was bubble wrapped, but thrown into a very large box. Lots of empty space caused some serious damage to the box during shipment. Luckily, the contents were all fine. The seat, back, and armrests were preassembled together, while the base/wheels and then the gas cylinder were wrapped separately. The gas cylinder was heavily bubble wrap (probably because it could do some serious damage while being shaken around otherwise. There were some minor cosmetic imperfections. Some scratches and smudges on the text on some parts of the chair. The fabric seems to be in relatively new condition. I do already notice the fabric of the backrest does not stay taut after getting up. All knobs/levers work perfectly though. Overall, if you want a brand new in box chair, this is probably not it. If you're looking for a refurbished product at a relatively good, refurbished price, this is definitely worth a look. You can get better warranties for refurbished office chairs elsewhere, but you're also going to be paying more for that.

  • Ultra comfortable chair

Had this chair at work and always wanted one for home but they are quite pricey. I do miss the full back of my old executive chair, but the various feature of the Leap overall are just so much better. Especially the tilt mechanism.

  • Yes. Chairs are refurbished. What did you expect for 1/5 of the price?

Don't think that you're going to order a $900 chair for less than $250 and it won't be refurbished. Speaking from experience, we have these Leap chairs at work, which is why I ordered one. I've been using the leap for more than 10 years (maybe longer) so I am an EXPERT on comparison. I suspected that the chair was not just "open box", but more of a "used and refurbished". The chair arrived to me quickly - 2 Days. My understanding is that if they aren't stocked, it can take a while for them to get the lots of chairs they use and refurb. Most of these discount office chairs are coming from the same building in Elizabethtown NJ. Not sure why...and results with who you deal with may vary. So, the chair arrived in 3 pieces. Bottom /w casters, gas cylinder, top. No tools required to stick them together. All of the fabric on the chair is new...which is good...because if you've ever seen a leap office chair after years of use, there is usually a stain on the seat.... The fabric isn't as comfy as the original Leap fabric however it will break in nicely I suspect. Also, these chairs aren't hard to take apart and re-fabric if I ever wanted to go in that direction. The only thing I do NOT like about the chair is the refurb on the arms. The Leap chairs usually have a rubberized material on them, and these refurbished chairs have a leather type material covering them. I have no gone through the effort to remove the covering to see if the original rubberized arms are under the new covering. I suspect they did this to give it a *new* look. The chair itself operates smoothly (arm position, forward position, lean, heights, lumbar ETC), and I can set it up for *exactly* my needs. As someone who has had lower back issues for most of my adult life, these chairs are a life saver. Overall, I am extremely pleased that I essentially got the same quality comfy chair I use in my office at my home.

  • Very comfortable with good lumbar

I've been working from home and I decided I need a new chair because mine was a bit worn out and really not that ergonomic. We have the Leap v2 at work so I figured a Leap v1 V1 would be pretty similar and they are. I do like the armrest movement on the v2 better but they are both very comfortable chairs to sit in and have good lumbar support. The adjustability of these chairs is just fantastic and I wish I would have gotten one sooner. The only reason I didn't give a full rating was because the condition says new, open box but it seems that it is lightly used as there's some nicks and scratches in the plastic and the lettering on the adjustment knobs seems faded. But other than that the fabric and the cushioning support seems to be clean and firm like new.

  • About as comfortable as you can get in an office chair

We got this Leap V2 chair open-box off ebay for my husband to use when he works from home and it's really comfortable. I have the Amia in burgundy that he also likes, but we couldn't find it at an affordable price so since my husband's employer has the Leap V2 chairs in the office that are comfortable, we got that instead, in black. It's not particularly heavy, at least not by Steelcase standards of the past, but I think that's the design-it's not supposed to be heavy, but still be comfortable. Ours didn't come with the instructions, but they are downloadable at the Steelcase website for free

  • Good buy for the money

This is my second steel case chair from Madison seating. I was some what hesitant on my first chair, but when it arrived I was very satisfied. This one is also pretty nice. I think a new gas cylinder should of been supplied along with it. The one that had came appeared to be the original. The material looks different on this one then what was on the first, but it seems fine. Overall it's a nice chair and built well, I will probably buy another from Madison seating again when the time comes.

  • Better Than Expected

This is a used chair so I wasn't expecting anything special. Overall the chair is in pretty good shape. My only complaint is that the hole in the base for the gas cylinder is worn, causing the bottom of the cylinder to touch the ground when sitting. Also the seat did not have a pleasant smell, but nothing a little baking soda and deodorizer couldn't fix. If you are looking to get one of the top recommended chairs I would say this is the best deal. It may be a gamble on quality but if you get a chair that is in good shape it will be 100% worth it.

  • I think this is used.

UPDATE - I finally found something that describes the differences between Leap v1 and Leap v2. This is directly from the manufacturer and I see it as their way of saying they cheapened the product to make more money by taking away some of the functionality but making it look better. So I assume taking away some of the padding was an unwritten "improvement" too - have a look for yourself. Here is what they say (Ebay won't let me put in the link): ----- Updated square back shape better integrates with today’s designs. New upholstery is COM-friendly like pillowed upholstery, but has the comfort, fit and price of standard upholstery. [NOT] No adhesives used. New, platinum finish (replaces sterling). Appears slimmer and sleeker overall. Updated base and casters, slimmer arms and arm caps. Arms are at a 2˚ angle versus 7˚ angle. Single back height of 25.5" provides better back support. Front seat edge automatically flexes with the user’s movements. Same usable sitting space, but overall width of 27" fits in smaller areas (versus 30). Softer, durable gelfoam arm caps. Depth adjustability added to height, width and pivot adjustable arm caps. What does it mean to you? Maintains all of Leap’s ergonomic performance. Better back support. Improved arm comfort and function. Easier to use with passive seat edge angle. Reduced footprint with same usable sitting space. Improved visual, yet compatible with Leap Version 1. Better environmental performance. Same price range as Leap Version 1. ----- So here is what I see as the differences... The padding is at least half of what we have in our Leap (v1) chairs at work, so not as comfy on the rear, and the lettering on the knobs was worn off in many places. I think these are put together from used parts or else just purchased used. Also, there is no seat tilt like there is on the one in my office, but the literature just glosses over this by saying this makes it easier to use. Maybe, but not as adjustable too, especially for shorter people. So if you don't mind that, the chair works as advertised but would be much more comfortable with better padding. I am wondering if they lowered the quality between the original Leap chair and the Leap 2. Would not surprise me.
