A great starter or back up DSLR

I bought this camera as a back up on my Rebel t3i about 3 weeks ago. Its been great to compare the two in terms of performance and quality and there are some differences, as you would expect from camera designs separated by nearly a decade. The large flip out screen on the t3i makes a huge difference when out and about - taking tricky angle shots is where this comes into its own. The 20d's tiny screen is next to useless but as I take multiple shots and edit afterwards this is not the end of the world. The file size is something else that the t3i is far superior over the 20d - the extra 10mb+ that the t3i has is notable, depending on the complexity of the photo and whether you mess around with photomontaging. However its not all doom and gloom - once getting the hang of the 20d the extra iso settings it has makes for more creative shooting and the build quality is just that bit more superior to its more modern counterpart. Considering the price it can be picked up for these days the 20d makes a very capable DSLR for those wishing to step up their photography from pocket cameras, or even make a fitting back up for more extensive photography packs. If you're in this situation - highly consider this camera in your shortlist

    Old DSLR, not really worthwhile.

This is an old (2004) dslr and not up to the standard of recent models. It doesn't even have auto ISO. The 500/550d is a better bet if you want a cheap canon! I used it with a rough sigma 18-125 which probably doesn't help. Your mileage may vary, but there is better on the used market.

  • Canon Camera’s

I purchased this Camera for my 9yr old Son’s first DSLR Camera, he’s been using a Bridging Camera for two years now and he loves this move to the Canon Camera... Incredibly easy to use for him pick up and just shoot, the Camera was in very good condition and he even thought it was brand new at first... I do want to teach him how to go from Auto to Manual with a DSLR and I think this will be the Camera to teach he with?? Set up of Camera very easy to use, Menu is very straight forward even for a beginner to Photograph!!

  • Buy it its brilliant

The canon 20D is excellent and easy to use especially when you have other canon cameras. I bought the body in its box, instruction booklet which solved a couple of my questions, the 18/55 lense I already had and the batteries and charger were included. Its very fast a lot faster than my 350D I would recommend it to anyone, but check the descriptionn there are lots of good ones on e bay but also some for spares and repair. I have the additional battery pack which makes the camera weighty but it you are going to shoot lots of pictures its ok, otherwise the one battery is ok for most photographers and the weight of the second battery and the battery pack makes the camera easier to use. Buy it good value and easy to use plus its an excellent camera. Although its now 15 years old its first class and a huge saving on a similar modern camera.

  • Still a great usable dslr and easy to use.

The Canon 20D was the Press Camera of the year when it first came out and still produces excellent pics and has a very useful specification. Unfortunately I had a software issue which rendered my original 20D unusable so the body only buy is a superb solution as I still have all my kit for it.

  • Canon Digital Camera 20D...beginners bargain

After using my 35mm canons all the time and not having anywhere near to get the films developed,I made the switch to digital. I was a bit nervous about it,but the 20D is so easy to use, even without manuals (easily downloaded from the internet btw). My photography has got more up to date now and the camera can actually take all the credit. Canon being a very reliable and robust camera,it’s a tad heavier than the 35mm bodies, but some of the lenses are compatible,so that saves a bit of cash. Do some research on THE lenses out there for a particular model though,as it can me hit and miss if you want decent pictures.

  • Good back up.

It may be 20 year old technology but it still can knock out a good picture , as a back up / 2nd body its ideal . You just have to think a bit more , [ not a bad thing ] . Very happy with this camera.

  • Canon Eos 20D

Only 8.5 mp but still a good camera with the ability to take EF and EF-S lenses , worth having as a cheap way to get into Digital photography with the right lenses .
