  • Great Entry Level Camera

I have very specific requirements for any on my cameras that depart from entry level camera types. It must have a "bulb" setting, have the capacity of an external shutter timer/release, have a mirror lockup lockup feature, have a "live view" and HDML monitor output and be light enough to hang off a telescope without unbalancing the mount setup. This camera fit the bill for me at a good price. I now have several of this model including one set up for daytime use only. This camera does not have the shutter count potential of the professional models, but since I do not intend to shoot 200,000 frames in my life time, a non professional camera is fine with me.

  • Too many choices

Well, the lenses from my old Nikon FE2 fit, and work under manual mode. I chose the camera for that, rather than use it as an auto-everything point-and-shoot DSLR. It takes photos in manual mode well enough, but the metering is hinky, and I end up using a hand-held meter, setting the shutter in the camera, and the f-stop on the lens. Just like the olden days before they put meters on, then in, cameras. I bought the 18-55mm zoom for the camera. It's sharp, quiet, and with everything on auto, the camera is quite boring. The pop-up flash is irritating and pretty much makes every photo hideous. Turn it off. Frankly, if Nikon made a sensor/memory circuit at a set ISO that dropped into the film guides of my old FE2, I'd use that for taking digital photos. Sorry, I'm old and cranky. It's a good camera.

  • wonderful camera

This camera is a delight to use. The faster ISO (the ability to take pictures in lower light) has been very convenient. The "Dynamic" and "Matrix" focus modes are so much more advanced than my D40 Nikon camera. Although I rated this camera as "easy to use", there is a learning curve to some of the features that make the camera better than a point and shoot. It seems as if the "Auto White Balance" is more intuitive than the D40. I am not sure how to rate the movie mode; I don't think that it is as good as my I-Phone 6, but its also a decade older technology.

  • Nikon D3100

I bought this camera on the chance i could fix it. I was told it had a shutter problem, but I was interested in the Video part of the camera. I found the shutter not to be so much a problem as I thought might be. I have a Nikon D3000 without the video the D3100 uses the same lens and works well with the video.

  • Great canera

I have the same camera but in black, however this was purchased for my 10 yr old grand daughter who loves using mines. Was it too much probably yes for her but it is a very cute camera and so far works well. I do hope it will be taken care of. My only drawback, where is the manual? It was not included as when I purchased mines.

  • Perfect starter camera

Great value for those getting into the DSLR platform. Simple, basic, full control over all features. Not great in lower light settings without a flash or tripod, but it's the lowest level from 2010.

  • Great price for a great camera.

Great price for the camera, it is my 2nd D3100. Wife bought me one about 10 years ago and other than the wear, buttons have lost there labels but it still works as well. Never a problem with it, my only complaint is a few bird shots because of focus speed.

  • Nikon D3100

Still a good camera after all these years. Lightweight and versatile. And can be purchased at a great price. Look for one with as few clicks as possible and you have a great camera that rivals any point and shoot. In fact, just put it on auto you have the best point and shoot out there in my opinion.

  • Exceptional value

The Nikon D3100 surprisingly looks like new, no scratches. Battery and charger works ok. Paired with my Nikon 24-80G it works very well so far. File size is large enough. I had one 16x20 print made. Look good even without processed with Photoshop.

  • OUTSTANDING.......

It arrived well packed and in good shape. It is fairly priced and I am pleased with it's level of good quality. Instead of learning Japanese, I worked out how to reset the operating language. I am pleased that it is a Nikon direct from Japan. That is where Nikon was born and raised. It is a well engineered tool, by highly skilled designers and engineers. I am left handed and like most right handed tools, there will be a learning curve. The technology is at a higher level the Canons that I used to shoot weddings with. I'm not doing weddings anymore, but it looks like this camera will be valuable in my new specialty. I may get another and some lenses to establish a working system to pursue my new portrait objective.
