  • Entry level DSLR camera that packs a punch

Wanted to get into DSLR for a long time so decided to take a punt and go for the Nikon D90. I used to own a Yashica with the old roll up film and loved my long telephoto lens, so wanted to achieve similar quality. Absolutely love this camera, currently taking pics on a 18-55 mm lens. Have taken weekend away snaps and recently a family wedding. There is nothing complicated if you put it in auto mode. The pictures are fantastic quality and far better than your standard phone camera. It takes both Jpeg and raw files, but I have tweaked the settings so I just get Jpeg files. You have to take the battery out to recharge, which is no big deal, and you can transfer the pics to your laptop via the USB port on the side of the camera. The battery seems to last ages which is good. Because it's old and second hand, the cameras are cheap and lens are cheap as well. So glad I bought this camera.

  • Excellent full feature SLR

A replacement for my failed Nikon D80, consequently fairly easy to get to grips with. Superior product to D80 in almost every respect. The spot focusing feature is much better than the D80, it's quite intuitive. The light meters need some off set similar to the D80 for the best results. The one I bought is a used example but it has been well cared for so at the price it was and absolute bargain. A top quality SLR for bargain basement price.

  • Good features and value

This camera was a step up for me from my previous Nikon D80. The D90 had a number of features that were attractive to me such as live view and the enhanced camera. The controls are easy to use and the weight is a good compromise between being heavy enough to give good stability while not being too heavy to carry about. Altogether a good buy that has enough features for an enthusiastic amateur while still retaining 'point and shoot' capability if required.

  • Great conversion

I had been thinking of giving digital infrared a try, having used Kodak film some years ago. This ready converted service is very good value compared to competition. The camera came all set up and ready to go, just attached a lens and went for a walk, 3 hours and 100 shots later, got home, set up a preset in luminar and I had some excellent images. Being able to review what the camera has taken helped me visualise, image quality is excellent and condition of camera as stated. Only minor is that a couple of the switches are a little stiff. Comes with basic instructions and where to find further information.

  • Nikon D90 - one of the best !

One of the best aps-c DSLR's you can buy if you don't want to spend hundreds... With a decent lens this camera can produce wonderful images. It's light but robust , very well built. With the huge choices of DX and full frame lenses you can use with the D90 it makes sense. I use this with a 35mm F1.8 DX and it's just brilliant !

  • Good, flexible and cheap way to get into infrared photography.

Despite slight concern that 690nm infringes on the visible red portion of the spectrum (but not as much as a 590nm "colour IR" conversion), there is an effective IR effect (blue skies are very dark, green foliage reflects a lot of IR which is picked up) without using a supplementary filter, and retains at least some colour differentiation - foliage looks different from architecture, for example. Sensitivity in infrared is good, and the autofocus adjustments seem to be working. The camera suffers as you would expect a D90 to if you consider its technical image quality (the resolution is only 12MP, there's an AA filter which softens the pixels, dynamic range and high-ISO noise are both very poor by the standards of a current camera, the autofocus system is... quaint, the buffer isn't very large) - but this is a mid-range camera from 2008, and all of this is to be expected, especially for half the price of, say, converted D7000. A D90 is the cheapest option which supports live view (albeit not as flexibly as later cameras), which is a consideration when putting longer wavelength filters on the camera. I've used everything up to 950nm (at which point a lot less light is hitting the sensor) with success, although since anything above 720nm removes secondary tones from the image and any of these filters stop the viewfinder being usable, I've usually been shooting without a supplementary filter. The D90 also supports screwdriver focus lenses (unlike lower-end bodies), which is useful when trying to avoid lenses with hotspots. Mine had a lump of fluff embedded in the viewfinder (which isn't visible with the eye to the finder and therefore isn't significant when shooting, but I'd have complained in a new product). I didn't give it five stars partly because of the fluff, and partly because the D90 itself isn't exactly making me regret buying my D850 - so it's not vastly better than expected and without niggles. But I'm very happy with the purchase (my expectations were not high), and would recommend it to others.

  • a classic digital camera still worthy to buy in 2022

Nikon D90 is a classic digital camera still worthy to buy in 2022. Lightweight and well made, the body feels great in the hand. The 12MP sensor is enough for most users and dilevers filmlike image quality, Can use almost every nikon lens produced. A great bargain specially if you find one with low shutter count.

  • Nikon D90 - still great value for money.

My first proper DSLR camera. Great improvement from my previous point and click. Quality of the photos are excellent, even when leaving it on Auto. This is a perfect camera for both learning about photography and improving your existing skills. Five stars!
