  • A true collector camera.

There is a reason why this camera with a small sensor is such a collector's item. It is still a great camera. Easy to use, you don't need to got into the menu like all the current cameras to change setting. It is all there in front of you with button, dials and switches. Just like in the old days. Even tho it is only 5 MP, the pictures are terrific. It looks like a million bucks. Very classic and solid looks. Nothing beats a Leica lens. The value of this camera will just keep going up in the future. Get one now before the price makes it unattainable. If the price does not go up, at least I have not seen it go down.

  • Leica Digilux 2

I used a friend's Digilux 2 on a recent trip, and I was so pleasantly surprised by what beautiful images this camera can capture. The colors are great. I have had a newer Leica whose images I thought would look so much better, yet that's not clear. The Digilux 2 images look like beautiful paintings to me. The detail is there, yet there's an aesthetic quality. My newer camera can capture more crisp looking images, yet I wouldn't say they are more appealing. To confirm what I saw online, I had a photo book printed, and I was tickled how well the images turn out. The zoom lens in the Digilux 2 is very easy to play with, and since the lens does not protract in and out, it's an easy camera to hold. The electronic viewfinder, though poor by today's standards, still serves its purpose. I relied upon the viewfinder in taking my trip photos, and I finally understood why people like electronic viewfinders. I'm not new to photography, yet my entry into the digital camera age has been gradual. I'd say that if you can find a Digilux 2 on sale with either a replaced sensor or a serial number in the 300* range and above, for about $500 or less, you will own a camera that may surprise you and make you think twice again about what makes photography enjoyable.

  • A Classic; amazing picture quality.

One might ask, why on earth buy a thirteen year old camera with only five MP? The answer is simple; the lens. Some have said it is the finest Summicron Leica ever produced. I had two Lumix LC1s - the Panasonic version of the same camera, regretfully sold them to try other cameras, but always missed the unique look of my photos with those cams. So I've returned and now happily own two Digilux 2s. Why two...well, just in case a sensor failure were to occur - I'll always have a back up! That's how much I think of these cameras. And also the totally analog control - three rings on the lens, aperture, focus and zoom and a shutter dial up top. No diving into menus. Just simple, immediately visible settings....and did I mention the Leica Look, oh yes. I guess there really is nothing like a Leica!

  • Digilux 2

This particular one is a gem, almost "unused" plus one of the very few that was made after the discovery of bad sensors in the previous Digilux 2s. If buying, make certain that the one you're looking at has proof that a new sensor has been replaced or that you have done your homework and check out a great deal of serial # information readily available to used, otherwise you might very well have a paperweight since Leica s no longer replacing the defective sensors and existing ones seem to be biting the dust on a regular basis; be careful.
