Simple concept
I was introduced to this item whilst my mother was in hospital recently. To all intents and purposes it is rather like a modified sack barrow BUT it is invaluable as an aid to moving someone from say bed to commode or chair and back. It is suitable for use with one carer who counterbalances the patient by stepping on the base plate. The patient uses the ladder like handle to raise themselves from a seated to a standing position. Once stable the brakes are released and the carer can move the patient to wherever is required, then the brakes are applied and the patient can then sit down again. The patients legs are protected by 2 'shin pads'. I was concerned that this item would not be easy to use on a carpeted floor as I had only seen it in use on a tiled hospital floor - however it is perfectly easy to use on a carpet. It can also be used as a means of exercising the patient by using it to go from a sitting to a standing position and back several times, thus improving muscles. All in all I am extremely happy with this item and would definitely recommend it.
