An uncooperative kit
I had wanted one of these models for years but until I retired I knew I would not have the time to complete it. The model is very detailed and will look stunning when finished. I have to say however, that the fitting of the parts is not the best, and the assembly of the hull seems particularly tricky. It may be the age of the model, but I had to tape up the hanger deck to the side of the hull, apply glue and then tape and clamp the whole thing together. The hull wanted to spring away from the decks, and even now, the glue having been dry for some days, I am still struggling to stop the two hull halves from splaying.
I was surprised because I have been making Airfix and other brands of model kits for well over 50 years and until this one I would have put Airfix up at the top of the list. Maybe it's just my age!
Spend a bit more money and purchase a set of 1/350 scale Harrier Jump jets, and a set of 1/350 scale crew members. The crew members can be placed inside the bridge of the ship and on the decks during construction-paint them first, of course. The model comes with only two Harrier jets, and by having more on the deck makes a big difference to the completed model.
Would I buy another one? YES! but I might not follow the instructions when it comes to getting the hull together.
