  • Still an awesome camera 13 years after it was made

The Nikon D700 was once the flagship of the Serious amateur/professional range. Next to the D3 this camera has the same sensor and processor as their top of the line camera. The photos it can capture are amazing. It does low light well, and flash photography well. The all magnesium frame make this one tough camera! The weather sealed body makes for the occasional shower while out taking photos no big deal. Nikons lenses are legendary and many of the older AF lenses give tack sharp images at very attractive prices. The 12.1 megapixel (more than enough believe it or not) D700 is now at a price point that is very attractive. The learning curve to use this cameras many features is short, especially if you have used a D300 in the past. I love this cameras easy handling, toughness and image quality.

  • Still an amazing camera in 2016

Although this is a 12 megapixel camera, most photographers will agree that the megapixel war has ended. A great camera is about so much more than lots of megapixels. This is a full frame camera, which means, the available megapixels are larger, and also means more light reaches the sensor. Less megapixels also means the camera can hold more photos, and post processing and storing files is a breeze. The D700 is build like a tank, it's a real workhorse that's built to last. They don't make cameras like this anymore! The D700 is known to go well beyond the quoted 150k shutter life. This camera is also full of pro features, it does not have all of the scene modes that you see on entry level cameras, and it makes using your camera in manual mode so much easier with the white balance and ISO buttons right on the top dial. I found learning to use it went very fast and it is an easy transition to anyone who has been using their camera in manual. There is just a certain magic about the D700 that makes it shine above other cameras. The photos just pop with lifelike color and contrast. It also holds well against todays cameras as far as low light photography is concerned with low noise at high ISO ( a respectable 2,303 ISO) and when you add the battery grip and upgraded battery, you can shoot at a blazing 8 frames per second! At an average of only $800 USD, you just can't beat what the Nikon D700 has to offer. Down sides to this camera are that it is pretty loud and heavy, and does not have video, but none of those are things that bother me.

  • Awesome FX!

The first thing I notice was this is much larger of a camera than I was used to. Started out with a 50mm f1.4d lense. Wow! The colors pop! The image quality is nothing that I have seen. No wonder this is still a popular camera. I captured a little buck in my yard with a 180mm ED lense with a rokunor 2x converter. That was my first wildlife capture. I am very happy with my purchase. This camera seems like it was built to last. Also seems like it would be easy to service. It is definitely a pro camera!

  • 500 bucks for full frame? Yes please

My first full frame camera and with the 50 mm 1.8 best budget professional starter kit . What i love with this camera is the amazing battery life , the colors !!! This professional body has the dials outside so for quick changes and also the light up screen to see your settings , Of course this camera is for those who master the (M) mode , if you master the light then you are ready my friend. And 12 megapixels?!?!?? If you get your composition right then those prints will be awesome even large ones Only bad thing how heavy is the body only, i do work out but not as bad ?

  • Can just shoot in program, or get as creative as you care to delve into the camera's features.

I haven't used an SLR since I put away my N80 film camera about 12 years ago. When the D300, and then the D700 came out, I knew it was the one I wanted, but it was cost prohibitive. Now that the D700 is 10+ years old, they are a great value, and I finally got my wish fulfilled. The D700 I found had relatively low (~7500) actuations, and was very clean. I put on my old lenses (~20 year old AF-S's) and was able to take fantastic photos once again. Just reading a few recommendations on the web, and I was able to set the camera to produce photos to my liking (a little under exposed, and more amber hues). My Samsung S7 takes some great shots, but now I have a single purpose camera that is so much more creative and fun to shoot.

  • Back to the Nikon dslr

I had many Nikon DSLR from film era to Digital, then I switched to Mirrorless systems such as Olympus, Fuji and Panasonic! But always looked back to Nikon specially with all those glasses from the past so I search and wait untill I got a very clean one with low actuation. Now I'm so happy with it's excellent built and picture quality and I feel home when I take it with me for just taking picture and not video! it's full frame and it's very fast and accurate focusing make me very happy. compare to a Nikon D750 which I sold it after two months, The D700 is very sharp! very sharp!! 12 Mega pixel is more than enough! and you can print a huge 24 by 36 inch picture with no noise at all.

  • Great Full Frame Value

Above and beyond the virtues of Nikon's metering, focusing and overall operation, the D700's full-frame sensor provides enhanced sensitivity without too much noise. You can use the high ISO capability to get the shutter speed or the aperture you want to get the shot you want. Plus many of those Nikon AF-D lenses provide high quality at a low cost, even if they don't have VR. At current prices, the D700 is a great tool to have in your kit.

  • Still good in 2021

The Nikon D700 may "only" be a 12 megapixel camera, but with its ability to shoot in low light with high ISOs, it's still a keeper. Shooting after dark, high ISOs still produce black backgrounds with no noticeable noise. Hand held shots are very viable even without fast glass. Images are sharp (partially depending on the quality of lens used) and the D700's internal corrections produce very pleasing results. It's still a keeper more than a decade after its introduction.

  • Love this camera ...

This camera may have been released in 2008, but the Nikon D700 is still an amazing FX performer ... Sure, it's only just over 12 megapixels, but the image quality and color saturation you get from this camera is unlike any that I have personally used before. One of the last Nikon DSLR's to be made in Japan, you can literally feel the quality on this camera. It's heavy, and loud, and produces amazing and incredible images - I wouldn't change a thing about it. For over $3,000 when it was brand new, todays price on this particular Nikon is an incredible value, in my opinion. I've read more reviews of people regretting having ever sold their copy of the Nikon D700. I love this camera.

  • My second wife

Before purchasing my Nikon D700, I tried one out a few years before and fell in love with it, especially the ergonomics and don't really care for the newer cameras with more pixels etc. This camera delivers 100% each time and have never failed me, and even though I own the Nikon D7000 and D90 which i love to death, i somehow always manage to never leave home without my D700. The images speaks for themselves. I would not and will not trade this for another newer camera but might buy another one of these as my back up camera. Take a look at a few shots I took with it, and get one if you are deciding to upgrade to a full-frame camera.
