About this product

Product Information

For photographers looking to improve their skills, Canon EOS 20D Digital SLR camera offers plenty of features. It has an 8.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and a fast DIGIC II Image Processor. The 20D is a high-performance camera in an affordable package. It has a shutter speed of 1/8000, a flash sync at 1/250, and a nine-point AF system. The high-end features of the EOS 20D will make you feel like a professional. The magnesium alloy body is designed for rough wear and tear. The compatible Canon EF and EF-S lens options make this digital camera versatile for a lot of visual adventures.Canon’s 8.2-Megapixel large area CMOS sensor gives the EOS 20D camera clarity. It has an ISO range from 100 to 1600. In extended mode, the ISO can be expanded to 3200 to keep working even in low-light environments. At high ISOs, narrow-gap microlenses and noise reduction circuits provide high image quality and cut down on graininess. The DIGIC II Image Processor, originally developed for the EOS-1D Mark II DSLR camera, provides the necessary digital processing power. It runs sophisticated signal-processing algorithms for better color enhancement and white balance. It also features the E-TTL II flash metering system that actively controls the flash brightness in different lighting conditions. The EOS 20D features a nine-point autofocus system for high-precision focusing in any situation. You can use the multicontroller in the back of the 20D digital camera to choose any of the nine focus points, or you can let the system choose the points automatically. The viewfinder shows the focusing points in a diamond-shaped array. With the AF system, taking an artistic photo with great composition is easy even if the subject is moving. With a 0.2-second start-up time, 65-millisecond shutter release lag time, and predictive AF focusing speed of 5 FPS, the Canon 20D is fast. The camera has JPEG or simultaneous RAW+JPEG mode. JPEG images are smaller in size and more efficient for online use. However, RAW format maintains a very high image quality through storing more information. Canon’s proprietary RAW images in CR2 format uses lossless compression to record 12 bits per pixel and provide more detail and contrast in image resolution. You can use Canon software on your computer to generate JPEGs from your RAW images. The Canon 20D DSLR body was built to last. Plastic and steel with magnesium alloy panels give the cameras a solid structure. With the ergonomic design for proper grip and shutter button placement, the camera body is easy to handle. The built-in flash blends in beautifully with the design of this model. Instead of the viewfinder, the 1.8-inch HD TFT color LCD can be used to monitor composition, focus, and lighting. The multicontroller enables horizontal and vertical scrolling. You can expand your images on the LCD screen to inspect your results. You can also rotate the pictures on the camera screen to change image orientation. This Canon EOS camera runs on lithium-ion batteries, and the accessories pack includes a charger. The compatible Canon EF and EF-S lineups offer ultra-wide-angle to super-telephoto lenses. With any type of lens, photographers will get precision results from this device.

  • Among the best value if you want a DSLR on a budget.

Among old Canon DSLRs, this is the oldest model that has IMHO enough resolution to not be afraid of printing in 8x11. If you get the right lens, this can provide an awesome image quality. Other than potentially useless megapixels, the biggest differences you might notice with a more recent camera is the lack of a live view (useful for astrophotography and some other manual focusing applications, though focus confirmation from the AF system can help for some of these) and some grain above ISO 800 (I think more recent DSLRs/mirrorless might do better). Still a huuuuge improvement over a compact or phone camera. If you're on a low budget, this paired with an old manual prime lens (I love my pentax-m 28mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.7, use an adapter with focus confirmation chip) can give GREAT results.

  • Canon 20D Great Value

The Canon 20D is an older model of this DSLR series, but it has the basics for taking great images. I had the Digital Rebel and 10D years ago and they worked well at 6.3 mega pixels. The 20D has 8.2 megs pixels, which is low by current standards, The good part is that the image files do not take up too much space and still provide enough data for awesome imagery. We get hung up on bigger is better, but this 20D is a great value used and perfect for someone starting out, as there are fewer electronic details to mess with. Only what is really needed, in my opinion. I have a newer Canon DSLR as well, but use both equally. The lenses are most important, really and they are getting better at the consumer level. You can always buy better equipment and there will always be something better as time moves on. Buy what you need and can best afford and learn to use it to its fullest potential and you will have awesome images and lots of fun. When the 20D came out years ago, its was one of the best available at the price point. Its still great and more affordable due to its age in the timeline.

  • Canon eos 20D

Nice little camera. I was impressed with the image quality and the continuous shooting speed. For those who can't afford 6D's and D750's it makes a great camera. And 8 megapixel is all that's needed to print up to 8x10 photos. In fact the lower megapixel are nice because they have larger pixels which improves image quality and reduces noise. Don't get me wrong it's no $1,500 camera but is plenty good enough for the average photographer. And as far as noise and image quality it is leaps and bounds above the Nikon D200 I once owned. If you want to chase your kids around and get some nice photos this could be you camera. If your looking to win awards, or shooting weddings for money you may want to save for something better?

  • A gem at bargain basement prices

The Canon 20D is still a very usable camera capable of producing fine images. Just a few years ago it was at the top of the enthusiast/professional level, and it still is a great camera to have and to use. The price has come way down recently making this a great choice for a first DSLR, or for a daily shooter, you won't be disappointed with this camera, and 8 mega pixels is more than enough for most every ones needs.

  • Amazing!!!!

If you are trying to get into photography this is probably a must. I ended up spending a total of $175 to get the body, lens, compact flash card, and a good flash card reader. Definitely couple this with a decent tripod if you want to get good low light shots. Sometimes the auto focus doesn't get what you want but everything about this camera teaches you valuable lessons that you should learn before breaking the bank on a camera. Even though it's only 8 megapixels the difference between this and a cell phone camera is staggering! Added some photos I took with this camera coupled with a 50mm prime lens which means the focal length is fixed at 50mm.

  • Solidly built and takes great pictures with ease. A fine camera for anyone wanting to get the feel of an SLR camera.

An excellent camera for those familiar with SLR film cameras. Using this camera is a great pleasure and for my needs the resolution is excellent! Interchangeable lenses makes this a highly versatile camera.

  • Oldie but a goodie

This is a great camera for someone just starting out who doesn't like the size of a rebel camera. Yeah, it's old, but with the right lenses images will be 10x better than any phone.

  • Outstanding Canon DSLR Camera

Outstanding camera for the money. Near-professional Canon DSLR without the 1000-2000+ price tag. Full features, great battery life, wonderful add-on options (extended grip with two batteries) Full magnesium alloy inner frame, tough, durable. I would never be without numerous 10D, 20D, 30D & 40D series Canon cameras. All are outstanding. Get one, you'll see. Photos taken with a Canon 20D & EF-S 24mm 2.8 STM Lens

  • An Oldie But Still A Great Camera.

The 20D was the first Digital SLR that I purchased back in 2005. I of course moved up the nine through ther EOS series, and know the cameras improved much over the next years. I have owned a 50D, a 60D, a 5D, and a 6D. I have always missed the feel and performance of the original 20D, so I finally found a decent on used on eBay, and purchased it. It's only 8.3MP, but there is something about the quality of the images that I really like.

  • Great Camera!

I already have a 20D and love it so much that I got a second one used when the other one didn't work as well. The new one is a little heavy because of the extra battery, but I like having it because I can take pictures for longer times.
