Did the job well after cursing a few times.....

Never used one before but couldn't afford bike shop prices for the repair so bought this to give it a go. Took me quite a while for first attempt but managed to remove broken link in my chain and fix it back together. Worth purchasing in case you ever need it, no instruction's but if I can figure it out then most people will too....

  • Most critical review

It does the job, but could be much better tool with some improvements.

The rubber handle slips out of the tool when using. A strong glue or even better - a locking pin would fix it nicely. The butterfly crank should be slightly longer (about up to 1 inch on each side) as it is very hard to screw it with even strong fingers on new, solid chains like KMC. Other than that it works nicely and adapts to variety of chain widths. Has a very strong pin which didn't bend under a huge pressure. Generally speaking - a good tool for that amount of money.

  • Very small and compact can be taken with you out on a ride and will do the job, no probs. Inexpensive too, delighted with it.

I used it the same day it arrived, Had no problem with it at all. Replaced a damaged link on my own bike easily and without stress.

  • A Good tool for new chains

This product is ideal if you have a new chain.. does the job no problem but on older chains I found that it struggled and the screw down bolt pushed it's way through the plastic handle resulting in the handle just turning and nothing happened as it had nothing to push against.. if you have an older chain look for a bar turning handle not plastic..

  • Chain breaker

I bought it brand-new, but the needle on the chain breaker is bent and I don’t know why it is so I had a look at the spare one and that’s bent too so I’m not really too happy about it

  • Good quality chain splitting tool

Received this today and very happy with it.Always difficult when ordering online because one is judging from aphoto rather than from handling the product, but this ticks all the boxes.not only does it appear to be well made of decent metal, and a good weight in the hand, but it has several additional design features whichare a great improvemnet on my old one(which broke recently and proved to be less ell put together than I assumed!).There is a spare pin, which is housed in the body of the tool and screws into the adjustable key, making it more secure.there is a wire restraining clip for the chain and a tightening bolt to also help hold it in place securely.the rubber coated grip is also a bonus, and while I haven't yet used it 'in anger' i would have every confidence in itsperformance.very good value and design.

  • The best chain breaker tool

This tool is great because it has the bigger handles. Tip - put a spot of oil on the threads, then it moves even easier and smoother. Put one in your carry bag with your spare chain. If you wax your new chain, you won't even get your hands dirty!

  • It broke

The end of the handle is made of plastic. Couple that with the high torque needed to break a chain and the plastic handle rips off and spins on the thread rendering this tool completely useless. I bought another tool, one of those silver all-metal ones with a metal bar on the end which gave greater leverage and also no chance of breaking.

  • Great

It's a very good tool the plastic handle makes it reasonably comfortable and its small clamp on the left side really helps keep the chain in place

  • Horrible quality

When I first got it, I tried to take a link out, snapping the turning handle. Then the main handle came off and just left bear metal. The ‘clamp’ threads got messed up so I had to use a pair of pliers to undo it. Overall it was just a horrible experience. Definitely was expecting better. Shame on whoever made this.
