Nikon D50 6.1 MP Digital SLR Camera - Silver (Body Only)

About this product

Product Information

The Nikon D50 6.1 MP Digital SLR (DSLR) camera is a reliable camera that is perfect for both first-time DSLR buyers and professionals who need a backup camera. The camera body is compatible with AF and DX Nikkor lenses, letting you put together a combination that best suits your photography needs. Its metal frame and polycarbonate material give it a sturdy heft, while its lightweight, contoured construction makes it easy to take around with you, allowing you to bring this DSLR on all your travels. The Nikon D50 6.1 MP DSLR is considered on the lower end for digital cameras, but it still delivers the performance you’d expected from the brand. With its simple point-and-shoot operation, this camera is ideal for photographers who are either new to the hobby or hoping to make the switch from SLR to DSLR. The camera comes with Digital Vari-program modes that are optimized for specific scenes no matter which lens you have equipped, removing the need to fiddle with settings and simplifying the overall picture-taking process. The mode dial comes with seven icons, each of which represent a setting that optimizes the color and contrast for each environment or situation, and reduces the need to make adjustments on the camera or at the computer. Despite its ease of use, the Nikon D50 6.1 MP DSLR comes equipped with features that make it a solid choice of digital camera. The 6.1-megapixel image sensor combines with an advanced image processing engine to allow resolutions of up to 3008 x 2000 pixels, creating photographs that look professional. The camera is capable of shooting 2.5 frames per second, and it has a shutter speed range of 30 seconds to 1/4,000 second. It comes with an auto flash, as well as the option to manually control the bulb setting, giving you more versatility depending on your setting. You also have the ability to set the ISO sensitivity yourself and to adjust for better white balance. The built-in timer is electronically controlled, with durations ranging from two to 20 seconds, and a slot for SD memory cards allows you to easily add storage as needed. The Nikon D50 6.1 MP DSLR also has a 2 inch TFT LCD screen with an easy-to-navigate menu and adjustable brightness. The camera supports multiple file formats, including JPEG and RAW (NEF), and its rechargeable lithium ion battery provides enough power to shoot up to 2,000 images before needing another charge. The long battery life makes it possible to bring this camera with you on your travels without having to worry about recharging. For those who prefer a more traditional view, the camera’s viewfinder provides an optical view instead of the digital preview on the LCD screen. The Nikon D50 6.1 MP DSLR is compatible with a variety of lenses, including the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II. This, combined with its adjustable flash settings, fast shutter speed, preset modes, sturdy body, and large LCD screen help this digital SLR stand out from others in its range. If you’re looking to try out a DSLR or searching for a new backup camera, the Nikon D50 is a solid choice, with plenty of features to make it fit a variety of needs.

Great camera for my vintage and great performing Tamron F mount film lenses

I bought this camera because I own two very good Tamron F mount lenses from the film days that I wanted to use without adapters on a digital camera. Took it to a Rose Garden where I usually had back luck in the past with taking images of the flowers in the bright afternoon sun. Took many and I mean many beautiful images with and without the internal flash and I was very happy with the colors and sharpness. The lens I used was a Nikon F mount Tamron 90mm F2.8 macro that worked perfectly with the camera. I left the camera in Auto Mode to see how the two worked togehter on their own. I aready knew the lens was a great lens for me so I wanted to see if the camera was up to the task. And it was, much better than what I expected from an aged 6.1 MP camera! Attached are examples of macro, portrait, sky view, and medium shot ranges. All these fotos required very little to no post processing, usually for contrast. The pics reminded me that 6.1mps were professional grade digital cameras in their time used by professionals at weddings and other paid assignments.

  • D-50 great digital choice for beginner or pro

Having been in the newspaper industry for 40 years I have known alot of cameras. I bought Nikon D-50's for my entire news department and never regretted the move. For ease, versatility, and quality this is the camera. I have shot weddings, night fires, sports, wildlife, stills, and portraits with the D-50. Choose your lens and start shooting.

  • Great starter for anybody.

Great camera. Only 6.1 megapixels but I've enlarged pictures to 16X20 with very good results. No LCD display on this model but I've never used one. I prefer the viewfinder as it helps with camera stability when taking a picture.

  • Good value. Simple to use. No frills, but great if you like old cameras.

This camera works just as described in the listing. It's a simple camera that works with standard Nikkor lenses and takes good pictures. No frills. Uses 2 GB SD cards (or smaller).
