Product Information

For photographers looking for a single-lens solution, the Nikon Zoom-Nikkor AF-S zoom lens proves to be a perfect companion. As it has a focal length range of 18-200 mm, this Nikon camera lens can be used for wide-angle as well as telephoto shots. With a construction of 16 elements in 12 groups, this 18-200 mm f/3.5-5.6G lens corrects aberrations while capturing photos. The VR image stabilization technology in this Nikon camera lens combats camera shake when shooting moving objects. The ultimate one lens solution

My D80 came with the excellent Nikkor AF-S 18-135mm 1:3.5-5.6G ED which I have owned for nearly 10 years. On a number of occasions when I needed an additional lens/body combo, I had access to a D300 fitted with this 18-200mm lens. I was deeply jealous as I found the additional zoom beyond my 18-135mm really useful. Also, the VR helped in low light/slow shutter speed situations as well as long focal length, hand held shots. When new, it was nearly twice the price of the lens I bought but after nearly 10 years, I've taken the plunge and bought a second hand one - because "I'm worth it". I'm very pleased that I did and that I got the VRII version with the locking zoom feature since this lens, and my 18-135 before it, both suffer form zoom creep when pointed up/down. The performance is as expected for what is fundamentally, a compromise lens. Obviously, the aperture is less than ideal but it would be both unaffordable and unwieldy to try and enhance that across this span of focal lengths. The moderate distortion at longer focal lengths is also acceptable when considering the great flexibility offered by this one lens solution. Yes, there are much better prime/limited zoom lenses out there, but that's not the point. This is the ultimate walkabout, single lens solution, ideal for holidays and weekends away when space is at premium. The only downsides are is that it's a different filter size, not a major issue, but it's also considerably heavier so that the overall balance of the camera is different.

    Mixed feelings

After reading rave reviews I purchased this 18-200 vr I've had mixed results at the moment , it's has got a shallow depth of field or appears to I find at wide open doing portraits a little to shallow for my liking if the auto focus picked up on the wrong thing you are way out , it's early days maybe I'm not quite used to it but for most shooting f8-f16 seems ok but not wowing me I'm considering going back to a few fixed lenses I'm maybe keeping this for wildlife I'm sure I can find this lenses place in the field

  • Convenience and great for some Nikon bodies, maybe not for all

In many ways a great lens... depends which body you attach it to... works great on my 3300 but the D90 reveals some weakneses. best read the reviews thoroughly before you decide whether this is the one for you... it is massively convenient focal length -wise

  • Nikon 18mm-200mm zoom lens

all in one focal range for travel photography wide angle to telephoto recommended

  • Wouldn't use the word excellent.

The auto focus is noisy and the telephoto action isn't a 100 % smooth

  • Nikon 18-200mm wide angle to medium zoom.

This lens is heavier than expected and the images are not as sharp as expected. It all depends on what you are expecting from this lens, from a wide angle to a medium zoom, it does all you need but for portraits etc., there are better.

  • Patience and research

I needed a lens that covered a broader photo opportunity choice. The fun of carrying many lenses had gone away. The Nikon 18-105 got close the 18- 140 closer still. The 18-300 over the top. 18-200, perfect. So happy! The thrill is back. It's a feeling of control and choice , wide or distant, personal or discrete. It took a long time to find it , best thing I have done in a long time!
