  • Razor sharp image.

This lens is fairly light, easy to handle, and takes razor-sharp images. No need for a tripod even when the focal length is 300mm. Smooth zooming, with no discernible distortion. With the lens hood, there is no lens flare or ghosting. The VR function works very well. If there is a downside, the AF-S lenses use the Nikon Silent Wave Motor, which is a bit slower and noisier than the AF-P lenses that use a stepping motor to achieve focus. It is still quiet and smooth, but this might make a difference if you're videoing in quiet environments, and you don't want the sound of the focus mechanism to creep into the video sound, or if you're photographing high-speed sports. I don't plan to do either, so this lens is perfect. I'm really very pleased with this lens, and would highly recommend it to any photography enthusiast.

  • Fast focus;sharp image

Got some lovely pictures with this lens . Brings subjects into sharp focus quickly and easily. Use as a 'general' lens to replace other lens is a bit difficult as the nearest the subject can be is a good way away (unless doing close ups of noses)

  • Excellent purchase

Light weight lens, comfortable enough to use without a tripod, which is a blessing when out in the field.. Auto focus bit slow for photographing wildlife but getting Pin sharp images when switching to the easy to use manual focusing . I'm very happy with the purchase, superb value and would recommend to any beginners.

  • Good value lens performs well.

Much cheaper than the 18-300 and versatile enough for day to day and sports. Sometimes need to come off auto focus at 300 because focus is on background not subject. And this can change from shot to shot. Overall great value, not too heavy.

  • Can't fault it for the price

Pin sharp images at 300 mm on D 7000, VR very effective at this setting. Manual focus better than auto to pick out single object in cluttered scene at max zoom. Partnered with an 18-55 DX VR gives 18-300 mm in 2 lenses, makes a very compact outfit.

  • Very pleased with the lens

Purchased as an upgrade from my Tamron 70-300 mm lens. If you're a Nikon camera owner, particularly a newcomer to DSLR, looking for a lens with a decent zoom capability and image quality at a price that won’t break the bank then I would recommend this lens. I’m very pleased with my purchase.

  • value for money zoom

Nikon branding makes this nearly twice the price of others but not sure its that much better ? Made in China but feels like good quality controls. Image is excellent though, no distortion at the edge of the range and fast focus. At first the zoom was slightly sticky, hardly noticeable but probably not as smooth as I had expected. Did get better with time. Can't complain at the price, excellent value for money.

  • Very happy with the lens.

This was described as 2nd. hand, I would describe as unused as I could find no signs of any use. At times the auto focus is a bit slow but other than that pictures are pin sharp.

  • A great lens for the novice photographer.

As a newcomer to DSLR photography this particular lens was recommended to me by a friend of mine, so I purchased one, I really am very pleased with its performance, really sharp pictures, easy to use, not too heavy, and most importantly, the price was right. So I have no hesitation in recommending this lens to others.

  • Ideal.

I loved this lens and looked for every opportunity to use it. The autofocus is fast and silent, and there is no loss of sharpness that I could detect, all the way out to 300mm.
