  • Powerful, versatile flash now at bargain basement prices

This was Nikon's best flash when it cost £600 - now you can get them much cheaper it's a bargain not to be missed. It's still more powerful than their new range with GN 38 (m, ISO 100, at 35mm) compared to the current flagship of the SB-5000 34.5 (m, ISO 100, at 35mm). It has light-based triggering with TTL built in - you can control flash power from the back of the camera or the back of the flash depending on model and preference. If you want TTL without line of site, you either need to pay the £500+ for the new one, or just add something like the Godox or Pocketwizard devices - still cheaper than buying new. It can be triggered hot shoe, cable or i-TTL. Zoom range is available if you need it, and it comes with a diffuser and colour balance gels - you can cut others to fit. The fact I have four of these in my bag, and despite using Nikon's latest DSLRs have not upgraded them to the newer flashes ought to say something!

  • one of the best

The sb 800 has been around for a long time but still has most of the features of the newer hotshoe flashes, reliable pro flash one of the best comes with a sync port and I-ttl infrared wireless operation can also be used as a commander with 3 groups additional battery compartment and battery pack add to more flashes and faster recycle times works perfectly with pocket wizard wireless system less features than the sb 900

  • Fully featured units...buy used and love them

A used Sb800 is so much cheaper than a 910 and still is powerful enough to help far more than I ever imagined. You can trigger via its own optical slave in SU4 mode, by sync socket to camera or (not included radio trigger) or I use a Debao su800 to keep full TTL and control several speedlights. So good I have 2 of them which I mount on hotshoe stands or on top of hotshoe lighting stand adapters with small softboxes or brollies. Even on-camera with included diffusion dome or bounced they are useful and I also use them with my 2 strobe studio setup for back or rim light.

  • Great and affordable way of starting your Nikon Creative Lighting System.

I is not easy to use but neither is it difficult, you just need to read and understand the instructions. If you are buying this then I would assume you know why. if you know why then you will understand that some practice is required to get the best out of it. THis Speedlight along with the others from Nikon have so many features and functions and this particular model offers full control over the Nikon Creative Lighting System. Combined with other Speedlights and a suitable Nikon camera a whole range of affects can be achived. That flexability does not come free and the price is spending time to learn how it works.

  • Don't be afraid of adding light.

I jumped into the deep end here. I prefer natural light. As you will find out like I did we need to introduce artificial light. The Seller was perfect. Not only did I get 2 great flashguns......but some extras to. I have got pictures that my natural light could never....i mean never get. Flash is new to me.....but I love the learning and results.

  • An Investment in good photography

Excellent workhorse flash, great controls, very well built, don't buy cheap copies, you won't save money nor will you get the same performance so don't buy a liability buy an asset. This flash is an investment in good photography. Bang for Buck it's worth every penny.

  • Sb-800 speedlight

I have three of these in my kitbag now, and for me personally they’re an excellent alternative to the more expensive sb-910. Recycle time is good and even better when the 5th battery is fitted, very easy to use “out of the box” and simple to set up as slaves and masters working well with the Nikon CLS, these flash guns will make a useful addition to any kit and won’t let you down, I haven’t found a situation where “I wish I’d spent a bit more on the 910” has been uttered. All in all, a brilliant flash gun with used prices at around the £150 mark, you get a lot of bang (flash) for your buck

  • Quality flash!

It's a quality Nikon Flash, and in perfect nick! I would recommend this model to anyone who has a Nikon past the D2H, which this was designed for: high speed sync, off camera firing if you sit it on its stand and use a sync lead, ability to be used in conjunction with other units for true pro lighting if you're up for it..... lovely bit of gear.

  • Nikon SB-800 Speedlight

This is a superb flashgun - intuitive on the auto settings and delivering excellent lighting. On the manual settings be as creative as you wish and push your personal boundaries. I have owned two of these guns and used them for portrait and wedding photography. Comes complete with a set of gels for creative effects and a mounting bracket. Uses 4 or 5 AA batteries ( the extra battery gives faster recycling time). It is almost impossible not to get a well-lit photograph with this gun.
