He appeared opposite some of the most glamorous women of the silver screen: Mae West, Katharine Hepburn, Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly and Sophia Loren. But because of his pioneering role as an independent player Grant was repeatedly denied the Oscar he coveted.
