About this product

Product Information

Can the reception of a single, widely disseminated book offer a historical road map for a global art history? This is the question posed by the editors of this volume of essays, which charts the enduring response to the Swiss art historian Heinrich Woelfflin's Principles of Art History, first published in German in 1915. Translated into 22 languages and still in print in many of them, Woelfflin's book inaugurated an art history based entirely on forms of seeing and employing a comparative method. Many of the translators and transmitters of the text are represented in essays on the book's readership in Europe, North and South America, and South and East Asia. From its reception, positive and negative, the first genealogy of a global art history emerges.

As usual, this seller is completely trustworthy: the book was as described, terrific value, arrived very swiftly from America, well packaged and safe. It was an old library book, but in great condition and appearance, and there can be no criticism, simply thanks and praise for a job well done.

Excellent communication throughout the transaction. This book was in very good condition as described and well packaged. Happy to highly recommend this seller with reasonable postage from USA. Book as specified, rapid delivery (from USA to UK), and a reasonable price for an out-of-print book. Many thanks for that. Overall, my book arrived in "reasonable quality" packaging. A padded "book mailer" envelope was used. Inside, the book was wrapped in brown paper, to further protect it. One small constructive point of constructive feedback: perhaps cardboard packaging could have been implemented, as a number of competing book sellers are now implementing cardboard packaging.
