A camp adventure set in an uncharted galaxy, The Gladiators: Galactic Circus Games tells of the discovery of the black hole phenomenon in the '70s and the subsequent launch of a manned space probe to explore it. <br><br>A real-time strategy game favoring fast-paced combat, players are expected to complete various missions with only a meager allotment of troops and within a strict time limit. "Volunteer" Greg D. Callahan helms the exploratory mission, only to end up lost on a distant planet and embroiled in a conflict that will decide the successor to the recently deceased king. At the behest of Princess Lydia, Callahan agrees to lead an army against those of Maximix and Fargass in the Deathbowl; a gladiatorial event, complete with color commentary, that serves as the main form of entertainment on this world.<br><br>With no resource-gathering or base construction, players are forced to rely on the acquisition of bonus cards to bolster their forces. These cards grant additional units as well as boons such as health regeneration and temporary upgrades to the speed, firepower, or defensive abilities of their forces. Joker cards can also be acquired that grant points that can be spent on previously exhausted power-ups at various spawn points located on each map. Each mission concludes with the player being awarded a grade based upon performance.<br><br>Offering three disparate campaigns, the game allows players to control the human armies as well as those of the robotic Maximix and the demonic Fargass. Assault, Capture the Flag, Deathbowl, and Gladiator multiplayer modes are offered across eight in-game maps, but those wishing to instead engage in cooperative play can join up to three other players in completing any of the scenarios offered in the single-player campaign. The Gladiators: Galactic Circus Games supports both LAN and Internet play.
