  • Good, but not great.

I'm a BIG fan of Bill Bryson's best works (A Short History of Nearly Everything, A Walk in the Woods). Although this work was good and some of his examples of writing by authors & journalists were LOL amusing, it was "good" but not his best work. I am presently reading The Body, and it IS one of his best!

  • Wish I had this years ago. I use it nearly every day.

Very clear explanations of word definitions, livened up by Bill Bryson's trademark sense of humor. It is in alphabetical order, which makes finding a particular word easy. Some of these usage guides are authoratative, but I can't understand what they are saying. These is clear. Not for everybody, this book is for those with a love of words, particularly writers. My copy is nearly new, at a used price, so it was a tremendous value.
