In der Geschichte der Entwicklung der Sira-Literatur bildet Mohammed b. Ishaq (gest. 151 n. H./768 n. Chr.) einen unuberwindlichen Eckstein, der die gesamte Gattung der Prophetenbiografie nachhaltig beeinflusste. Muhammad b. Ishaq wird deshalb als der Meistergelehrte und die bedeutendste Autoritat auf diesem Gebiet betrachtet, da er die erste umfassende Prophetenbiografie verfasst hat, die bis heute annahernd vollstandig erhalten ist. Diese Studie soll sich in erster Linie mit der Untersuchung der Zuverlassigkeit des Sira-Werkes b. Ishaqs anhand seiner historischen UEberlieferungen uber die Kontakte und Treffen des Propheten mit Christen auseinandersetzen. Da viele Sira-Forschungen in den letzten Jahren die Kontakte und Konflikte des Propheten mit den Juden untersucht haben und die Sira-Forschungen uber christliche Kontakte im Leben des Propheten gering sind, wird mit dieser Untersuchung intendiert, diese Lucke zu fullen.
