About this product

Product Information

At long last, here is the thoroughly revised and updated third edition of the hugely successful The Art of Electronics. It is widely accepted as the best single authoritative book on electronic circuit design, and is in fact so popular that it has been counterfeited - so beware if purchasing from a third party via an online retailer, as you may receive a very inferior physical product. In addition to new or enhanced coverage of many topics, the third edition includes 90 oscilloscope screenshots illustrating the behavior of working circuits, dozens of graphs giving highly useful measured data of the sort that is often buried or omitted in datasheets but which you need when designing circuits, and 80 tables (listing some 1650 active components), enabling intelligent choice of circuit components by listing essential characteristics (both specified and measured) of available parts. The new Art of Electronics retains the feeling of informality and easy access that helped make the earlier editions so successful and popular. It is an indispensable reference and the gold standard for anyone, student or researcher, professional or amateur, who works with electronic circuits.

The best electronics book just got better

'Horowitz and Hill' has been the bible for teaching and practising electronics for thirty seven years and went into a second edition in 1989. Since then rumours of a third edition sprang up every five years or so. Most of us who used the second edition believed the third would never come. Now it's here and it is no dissapointment. It's up-to-date and is straightforward to read either as a continuous course or as a reference manual. In the later parts the ground will be new to many but the paths are clear. With its companion volume, Learning the Art of Electronics, CUP have set the standard of up-to-date texts on electronics.

    • Not for light bedtime reading

I'm not an expert, but this book seems very thorough and well written. I would say that if you are totally new to electronics then this might be a bit hard-going unless you have a fair understanding of maths/physics, but if you already have a vague understanding and want a great reference book to learn from then this is perfect. It's not super maths-heavy (obviously you cannot totally avoid maths with electronics), and has been written by someone who is very passionate (and very knowledgeable) about the subject. Although I have been reading it in bed, I wouldn't recommend that as the book is quite heavy and makes you legs go dead after a while.

    • It's in the title!!

I used the second edition to help me through my Electronics degree and beyond. This edition brings the book up to date. It was recommended by the University.
