"What the novel offers above all is bone-deep emotional truth...Its myriad characters--each as real as readers' own kin--grapple not just with issues of life and death but with the sufferings and joys of daily existence in a setting detailed with finely attuned attention and a warm sense of wonder. This novel has a huge heart." -- Publisher's Weekly (starred review)

Synopsis
Following a family tragedy, siblings Lou and Oz must leave New York and adjust to life in the Virginia mountains--but just as the farm begins to feel like home, they'll have to defend it from a dark threat in this New York Times bestselling coming-of-age story. Precocious twelve-year-old Louisa Mae Cardinal lives in the hectic New York City of 1940 with her family. Then tragedy strikes--and Lou and her younger brother, Oz, must go with their invalid mother to live on their great-grandmother's farm in the Virginia mountains. Suddenly Lou finds herself growing up in a new landscape, making her first true friend, and experiencing adventures tragic, comic, and audacious. When a dark, destructive force encroaches on her new home, her struggle will play out in a crowded Virginia courtroom...and determine the future of two children, an entire town, and the mountains they love.

    LOVED this book!

After watching The Christmas Train on TV, I realized that David Baldacci must be a great storyteller ~ and he certainly is! I selected WISH YOU WELL as my first book of his to read as it is a tale of rural life and describes the hardships of farming and the coal industry.....my dad having been a coal miner for many years, it was of special interest to me. The book makes you feel like you can almost see these colorful and somber characters and is filled with the daily drama of their lives, taking you along for a most wonderful adventure! A+++++

  • Wish you Well

Geographically situated where I grew up. Brings back many memories, good and bad..I love this book. It lays bare the surroundings and some of the inhabitants of Appalachia. I loved those mountains and would not trade my experience growing up there. Just finished reading Dream Town, the latest of the Archer series. I watch Amazon for news of any upcoming new releases and never hesitate to preorder any and all.

  • WISH YOU WELL

This is the book that got me hooked on the writing of David Baldoacci. It is a masterpiece and a gripping tale of a families struggle for survival in Appalachia during the middle of the twentieth century. Very touching and memorable. I have two copies and will be giving them to special friends.
