A piece of maritime history.
A fine record of when we had a navy with aircraft carriers and fixed-wing aircraft to fly from them. Excellent shots of Phantom and Buccaneer aircraft and of rotary wing on a rescue mission. My only criticism would be that the music over the credits is no longer Rod Stewart singing 'Sailing' and the DVDs are quoted as 'Digitally Restored' is questionable. I have a copy of the programmes that I recorded on VHS in 1978 and have subsequently transferred to DVD that show very little loss of quality by comparison. Having said that I think it excellent value for money, the packaging presentation is first-class. Lastly i found it interesting to compare the accents of the officers to those of the officers in the recently re-shown TV programme on the final deployment of the last Ark Royal !A fine record of when we had a navy with aircraft carriers and fixed-wing aircraft to fly from them. Fantastic blast to the past
When this show came out it was one of the things that made me want to join the Rn. Don't expect PC attitudes , fancy cgi or graphics but do expect a gritty down to earth honest documentery about life on the old old Ark Royal (her successor has been scrapped too now) and how life in the royal navy was before computers, internet or e anything. A great series
