Dark chocolate humour with engaging characters
This is a black comedy, so needs to be approached with that in mind, it is an 18 rating for good reason and in this reviewers opinion the back story was unnecessarily dark and tragic and not a good base for comedy, but moving beyond that, the characters were engaging and entertaining and the film progressed at a good pace. Visiting Brugges before viewing as this reviewer did (its the perfect 2 or 3 day city break location) really helped in understanding the conflicting views of the main characters, but that is is not essential providing the viewer goes with the flow of the story. Overall very entertaining and watchable performances by all of the cast members, working slightly outside of the types of roles they are more usually associated with, while the old city of Brugges plays an ... Unusual film.
Slow startthe actors work well together { surprisingly } If you like Colin Ferrell if action films then you might be a little disappionted. It's still worth a look but for me it is not one i would keep watching.

A bleak, hugely entertaining, blackest of black tragi-comedies. Not for the feint hearted or over sensitive. Two lrish gunmen have bungled a hit on the main land and their boss has sent them to Bruges to hide out, at least that's what they think.... The two have a Ted and Dougal friendship, and although you can see some of the jokes coming a mile off, they're still funny. The finale takes a very unepected turn, both tragic and optimistic. Strange film.
I may have to watch it again as I might have missed something. not a great storyline but has to be worth buying it for the restaurant scene where one of the main characters kicks-off with an American. Brilliant, my wife asked me to replay it several times. Lots of swearing and violence, and in fairness good acting.
