There are 6 normal nuts and bolts and two adjustable thumbwheel bolts on the mechanism, and I had to loosen all 8 fixings as it was so tight it was difficult to adjust. With a bit of tweaking though, its fine.

I opted for this model as it has such a heavily weighted base that there is no need for an ugly clamp to keep it safely in position on my desk, it is almost infinitely adjustable to any desired angle. Unlike many lamps in this price range the metal shade is slotted around the section where the bulb holder is situated which prevents any heat build up and ensures long bulb life and adds to the design aesthetic.
