I managed to modify the piece to fit and all is working fine and my kitty loves it. The seller was however not very helpful when alerted of the fault, and refused to acknowledge the fault. The did offer to refund me if I deconstructed the whole unit and repacked it and returned it to them. So in summary. We sell a lot of products and this is the first time we have encountered feedback with a 5mm gap.No product in the UK is error free. So we apologise for the inconvenience
