Synopsis
Rasselas is a tale of the royal princes of Abyssinia, who were condemned to live on the prison-mountain of Wehni until they died or the order of succession called them to the throne. How much of this was truth and how much legend? The author of Meetings with Remarkable Trees, Thomas Pakenham traveled to Ethiopia to find out. The predicament of the prisoners had been even more melodramatic than previously surmised. And an incredible archeological discovery was made: a medieval church of the finest style ever recorded. Nearly 40 years after the story was published in 1959, Pakenham returned to the Mountain. In this edition, historical insight and new color photography are added to the original story. 176 pages (all in color), 9 1/2 x 11 3/8., Rasselas is the tale of Abyssinian royal princes, condemned on the prison-mountain of Wehni until they died or ascended to the throne. Nearly 40 years ago, Pakenham traveled to Ethiopia to separate truth from legend. He discovered the extent of prisoners' predicaments as well as archeological discovery: a magnificent medieval church. His story comes alive in this colorful, historical account.

Great Communication, fast service, well packed, low shipping, will buy again! Good value for the price and well described. When it arrived it was in excellent condition, high quality and super appearance. I was on a gunboat officer. Want to see what others had to say about that stinking war, I am also dealing with Agent Orange.

Pakenham is an eloquent antiquarian. His pilgrimages to the three legendary royal prisons are breathtaking. In his thrilling book he meticulously employed loads of old quotes on Ethiopia. The tome beyond recounting adventurous trips it has a vital historical value. My only concern regarding the book is some of the Amharic words which are written in Latin alphabet are incomprehensible even for a native speaker like me.
