About this product

Product Information

Much-loved BAFTA-winning TV star and platinum-selling recording artist Jane McDonald is on the crest of a wave, with two number one TV shows, a sell-out tour and a new book out this autumn. THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER 'Everything is much easier in life when difficult situations are faced with humour and a smile. But, don't get me wrong, that took years to realise. What a journey...' Whether performing in an arena, presenting a number one TV show or recording a top-ten album, Jane McDonald will never forget her Northern roots. Her down-to-earth Yorkshire charm is as much a part of her as her talent for singing, and here she is telling her remarkable story with characteristic wit and warmth, in her own words. A miner's daughter from Wakefield, Jane was a shy child who struggled with anxiety, but she found the courage to overcome her fears and follow her passion for performing. Jane famously hit the big time overnight on TV show The Cruise twenty years ago, but here she talks for the first time about how she survived the dark legacy of that early success, and climbed right back up for a second bite of the cherry. It hasn't all been plain sailing, but in Jane's world tough times make the good times better, and her spirit, heart and humour sparkle from every page.

    Interesting read.

Iv'e only read a couple of chapters and finding it hard to put the book down due to the fact Jane is the most down to earth person and written in an easy to understand way. I bought the paperback for my 87 year old Mother who is enjoying the book that much Iv'e started reading it on my kindle and finding it an enjoyable read and is also a topic to discuss and share.

  • Lovely Lass

A very good read told in Jane's own inimical style. What an interesting life of ups and downs. Trusting and gullible at first as she was ripped off by her agents, and to a certain extent one of her husbands! Her mum was her rock though, and with true Yorkshire grit she always comes up smiling. A true lovely lass who wears her heart on her sleeve, what you see is what you get, talent.

  • Easy good read

I dont read a lot of books, but this is great for me. I have seen Jane live and she was absolutely great would go and see her again if i get another chance. So it is interesting to me to read about her life, i can see how hard she has worked to get where she is today. I think she had lovely parents that were so encouraging, they sound a nice close family.
