About this product

Product Information

Professional journalist and amateur drinker Bianca Bosker didn't know much about wine - until she discovered the world of elite sommeliers who dedicate their lives to the pursuit of flavour. Astounded by their fervour and seemingly superhuman sensory powers, she set out to uncover what drove their obsession, and whether she, too, could become a 'cork dork.' With boundless curiosity, humour and a healthy dose of scepticism, Bosker takes the reader inside underground tasting groups, exclusive New York City restaurants, California mass-market wine factories and even a neuroscientist's fMRI machine as she attempts to answer the most nagging question of all: what's the big deal about wine? Funny, counterintuitive and compulsively readable, Cork Dork not only illuminates wine production and consumption, but also shows how cultivating our taste buds can have enormous ramifications for both our brains and our lives.

Fantastic experience with this seller. I had an issue with the clay in my kit being dried out, which is something they couldn't have known about before me opening the box. I sent them a message and they replied quickly and kindly with a resolution, replacing my kit for me. Overall the kit was fantastic value and arrived brand new, in perfect condition bar the clay. Very trustworthy and helpful.

  • A fascinating read from beginning to end

For anyone with an interest in wine I would say buy it. I bought it for someone else but could not stop skimming bits until I had to read it completely. The writer is a journalist and writes in an easy manner with lots of detail and humour. She writes of her experience of the world of sommeliers, of wine sellers and producers but does not cast a critical eye over the grossness she encountered among the super-rich buyers of wine. I liked her encounters with those obsessed with wine but I would have liked her to have given her view on the morality or values of those people buying and selling extraordinarily expensive wine
