Along the way, Freeman was out of work, battled alcohol abuse and the break-up of his marriage and nearly left acting - only to be save by Robert Redford and a pimp named Fast Black, a role that earned him his first Oscar nomination. In this compelling autobiography of this indomitable actor, Tracy opens the door to his hard-scrabbled existence that now informs his work and its signature grace and world-weary wisdom.
