Whilst not technically critical (the wheel-bolts clamp the disc to the hub), these screw's sole purpose is to ensure that the holes in the disc line up exactly with the wheel-bolt holes to ensure that they go in cleanly and straight ...a local (Fairford, Glos) garage lost one when replacing a ball joint, with another forced in at such an extreme angle when fitting a drive-shaft that it resulted in the wheel-bolts being very slightly misaligned and loosening off!
