Product Information

A typically Beatlesque film (i.e. atypical) originally produced for television, this short film was intended to be an off-the-wall road movie with the Beatles and three dozen or so friends on a psychedelic bus. Shot with only a vague script and only bare outlines of scenes, the movie was meant to document a trip to the seaside resort town of Blackpool, England. Made in September of 1967, The Beatles' brilliant rock album is transformed into colourful and energetic images. The film also contains the only live version of John Lennon's æI Am the Walrus.Æ Third of the Beatles films to include Victor Spinetti, famous for his mohair sweater wearing role as the television director in A HARD DAYÆS NIGHT and as the determined scientist with the laser in Help!

    Bizarre spectacle saved by the music

    The Beatles were the soundtrack to my teenage years and up to Christmas 1967 everything they touched had turned to gold. Earlier in the year their manager Brian Epstein had died from an accidental drug overdose and his controlling influence had been lost. The MMT project was Paul’s idea and bearing in mind that in the summer of 1967 The Beatles had changed the world of popular music for ever with Sergeant Pepper, The Beatles were indeed the toppermost of the poppermost. This film was made on the hoof, unscripted and spontaneous. The editing process must have been a nightmare but probably saved it from complete disaster. It was a first aired on Boxing Day 1967 on BBC 1 and was panned by the critics. Even diehard Beatle fans such as myself were disappointed. But wait... Back in 1967 TV was ...
