    Classic story.

Great cinematography, moving story brilliantly acted by a fantastic cast. Main theme by Jarre was good but occasionally misplaced in the context of the story. Worth looking up the biography of Boris Pasternak the author.

  • A good solid film, still stands the test of time

Excellent film, having been made in the early 60's it is still mesmerising. The lighting used by the Director David Lean is very clever and is a romantic film which touches of sadness. The particular DVD I had was a little confusing in itself as there are two discs, one being a bonus disc with extra scenes and information. However, the actual feature disc was played both sides and not clear as to which was 1 or 2 nor in fact was there any evidence to suggest that one disc flipped over to continue. This when sorted however, did not detract from the brilliant classic that this has become.

  • Interesting Film

I decided to get this dvd following a trip to Russia. I wanted to know more about the revolutions. It was a good film but a bit long winded. Perhaps its just showing its age - movie making has changed a lot since this was made

  • Entertaining

My husband has recently re-read the novel, and wanted to see the film after more than 40 years. His verdict is - very entertaining, but has nothing in common with the book except the title!

  • A Film Classic

This hauntingly beautiful love story is set with a background of Russia's Revolution following their disastrous defeat in WW1. David Lean's direction is superb, the casting and acting is brilliant and the cinematography has never been bettered. This is a film you will wish to keep and watch again. If you have never seen it prepare to be moved emotionally, it is simply superb.
