I use multiple double ropes systems, to get myself right where I want to be, and very safely. I use one on each ankle, to assist a zigzag on each rope. It leaves my hands free to hold the ropes, and really takes the strain out of climbing. These are also the only ascenders which won't damage your rope with every step. Sure, they may cost a little more, and be a little bigger, but the mechanism is clearly superior.
