      Awesome adventure story!

A Classic Adventure Filmed on location in Africa this film is a real treat for the whole family! They don’t make films like this anymore and anyone who remembers Stewart Granger this is one of his best roles as Allan Quartermain. This classic came out the same time Walt Disney’s Treasure Island did and made the early 1950’s nomination for best picture Academy Award and won Oscars for Color Cinematography and Film Editing. Though it doesn’t really spend to much time inside King Solomon’s mines it’s a great adventure film you’ll want to watch again and again. Highly recommended!

Not a very good rendition of the original book

Not a terribly poor movie for the 50s Unless you’ve read the book as they deviated a quite a bit from the book. While I realize that they can’t follow the book Word for Word but they could’ve followed it a lot closer than what they did.

    • Great action picture with FANTASTIC native dance number!

of the four Hollywood productions based on this novel, this version is the best! The native dance number alone is worth the price!

    • Great action film.

Totally great actors of days of old. Stewart Granger and Deb Kerr. Lots of action. I love westerns today because I am a senior. Stewart Granger was even in westerns in the day. Great action features that you don't see the likes of today. I am happy to have gotten the movie. Thank you, Jim

    • King Solomon's Mines

Of all the Allan Quatermain movies this is the best. It does not exactly follow the book by Haggard except for character names, and the general drift; yet it is entertainingly close. The performances by Kerr and Granger are exceptional. Hollywood acting in the pre-FX era at its very best and reminiscent of Bogart and Bacall. The minor technical glitches are understandable, for example the Indian elephant used in the first scene contrasts badly with the African elephants if your eyes are quick enough. Obviously this is because Indian elephants are easily trained and safer to work with in comparison to their African brethren. Otherwise the costumes are impeccable as are the firearms. Note Quatermain's double brimmed hat. The scenery is pristine and the color great. Highly ...
