Reviews
There are six publications devoted to a "review" or preparation for the PT Assistant taking a licensure examination. Tenpenny's extensive text is the latest to be made available to the growing number of physical therapist assistants. It would appear the new publication will be very helpful in preparing the PTA for the NPTAE. In recent correspondence with the author, he wrote, "Though my original intention was to better serve the entry-level physical therapist assistant population - the positive feedback and intangible rewards that come with being published have also been priceless." In the book's section , "About the Author" Kevin Tenpenny is described as a PTA and Associate Professor at Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois. He is a full-time faculty member for the PT Assistant and Massage Therapy programs. He earned his Associate of Applied Science Degree while serving in the US air Force from 1989 to 1996. He was recognized as the 1994 USAF Outstanding Physical Therapy Specialist of the Year. The text is presented in four sections: 1) Exam Preparation; 2) Tests and Measurements Group 1: 102 Questions; 3) Interventions; and 4) Standards of Care. Within the sections there are 9 chapters, each with many questions (950) to challenge ones multiple-choice testing skills and improve clinical reasoning. A CD ROM is included with the book which includes three full length, 150 item, practice exams which give users the feel of taking the actual exam. The appendix includes four table (Muscles of Facial Expression, Muscles of Mastication and Muscles that Move the Eyes, The Cranial Nerves and Disorders of Joints) in additional to anatomical illustrations and suggested readings. - Jay Schleichkorn (http://www.mediamd.com/ptjay/May-June 205), There are six publications devoted to a "review" or preparation for the PT Assistant taking a licensure examination.
