    Perfect replacement

    I needed an exact fitting replacement for my defunct dynamo, this one fitted the bill perfectly. After flashing the field coil and starting the engine, the voltage built up quickly to 13.5v exactly as expected. Although not in the listings for this product, this dynamo was fitted to a Reliant Rebel and was clearly the right dynamo for the job.

    Superbly original and incredible value.

    I was very pleased to receive this dynamo as the cost to overhaul the original, a Lucas 39/1 positive earth fitted to a 1953 Triumph Mayflower was going to be very expensive. It looks well made and heavy. I had to file a small amount off the aluminium end brackets to fit the bracket on the car and convert the unit to positive earth which is an easy process with details on the internet. The original cable fixings were brass washer endings secured by nuts but it was simple to change these to push on connectors to match the new unit. An important point to make is that the new unit does not come with a woodruff key so you need to remove the one from the old unit. I also found I had to file it very slightly to fit into its recess.     Just like the original.

    A well made dynamo which looks and functions just like the original Lucas C40. Presumably, and there's no indication otherwise, that these are sold polarised for negative earth. A simple "flash" to positive earth ensures use for those vehicles. Even the F (field) terminal is as the originals, through the commutator end cover, unlike some modern replacements where it is attached to the body. So far only tested as a motor so it's more or less certain it will generate too. 22A max. output at 12V.
