      Slow burn British Folk Horror Classic

      Perhaps the greatest British horror film of them all. This film is unsettlingly eerie rather than silly jump scare gore fest territory. The un-sanity that befalls a sleepy early 18th century village is quietly disturbing. Angel Blake (played by Linda Hayden) is both seductive and bloodthirsty as the ring leader of social outcasts who fall under the devil's spell. Their sworn enemies: Patrick Wymark as the justice of the peace and his bumbling sidekick, James Hayter (aka Mr. Kipling's 'exceedingly good cakes') provide counterpoint to the folkloric machinations of the mob. Low-tech it is- but high in suspense.
