      If you are a backpacker, avoid this new format Lonely Planet and stick to Rough Guide

      We used to buy Lonely Planet for our backpacking trips but never again as the new format is generic, unhelpful and I feel it is now aimed at travellers who want some background information but are going to get an agent to create a bespoke trip or buy a package. The transport information is so vague as well. Would not recommend this travel guide for people who plan to do everything independently - it is fine as an introduction to the country and the highlights. Will stick to the Rough Guide from now on.
