About this product

Product Information

Camp Lawton was the largest prisoner of war camp constructed during the American Civil War. Built to replace Andersonville, at 42 acres it was almost twice the size of that more notorious prison. Confederate plans called for Camp Lawton to house up to 40,000 Union prisoners. Only just over 10,000 prisoners were captive there when Sherman's March to the Sea forced its evacuation. This book is the only work ever published which focuses entirely on Camp Lawton. It contains over a dozen eyewitness accounts, most of them long out of print, by Union soldiers held prisoner there. It also includes a short overview of the history of Camp Lawton and the Roll of Honor , names of the soldiers removed from Lawton National Cemetery to Beaufort National Cemetery. Camp Lawton is now on the site of Magnolia Springs State Park, where the editor is employed. It wa bit disappointing that the seller wouldn't reply to my questions about why the description said 'used good' and not what was wrong with it and why not mint, & offering to 'accept an offer' but didn't so I ended up paying full price and taking a chance. However, the vinyl was dispatched immediately and arrived before its expected delivery date, and was packaged securely in 2nd hand shipper. The quality of the vinyl cover was nr mint and vinyl mint so did match the appearance and I am happy.

Have brought from them before and as always, carefully packaged and quick delivery. The book condition is immaculate. However in the description they failed to mention the book is written in Dutch! For the £14.09 was a complete waste of money for me. Haven't contacted the seller about my disappointment as my friend is Dutch and will be the proud owner of it. My advice would be as pictures are vague and description is standard is to contact the seller if in doubt! Otherwise they are efficient.

The vinyl arrived quickly and was packaged very well, exceeding my expectations. I appreciate the seller's care. While the listing noted that the item was used, a more detailed description of its condition would have been beneficial. I believe the price was fair for an item in very good condition, but the item received was of slightly lower quality than expected. Overall, I am satisfied and would recommend this seller.
