    The Velvet Underground has grown over the years to be recognized as the most groundbreaking band of the '60s, and this 5-CD set is a shattering testament to their greatness and Lou Reed's genius. On it's 5 CDs are newly remastered versions of all four of their studio albums (with the Velvet Underground presented in it's alternate, "closet" mix version), plus-hold on-25 unreleased tracks, including 11 demos with John Cale and one without, seven Loaded outtakes and six live performances, plus other rarities plucked from VU and Another View. An 88-page booklet with complete credits and rare photos and memorabilia round out the set. Essential listening.

      PEEL SLOWLY AND SEE..THE VELVET UNDERGROUND

      This is a great collection of music from one of the great bands. Lou Reed's compositions are unequaled in the alternative music scene. This collection includes all of the bands studio recordings with Lou Reed which have been remastered. The album The Velvet Underground is an alternate version, the one Lou Reed invisioned and personally I like this version better. The demo's and live recordings are somewhat jumbled meaning the quality is not always up to the standards you may be used to. This however is a mute point, this collection focuses on the band and their ever changing musical scope. This collection will please both newbies and long time fans of THE VELVET UNDERGROUND...

      Great music, poor packaging

      Overall, my used copy of this 5-disc set was in very good condition (as advertised), except disc 1 which was very scratchy, and stopped playing altogether for the last minute or so. Shipping took 3 weeks! It arrived in a very thin plastic envelope with absolutely no padding, looking weathered and torn by the time it reached me. Still, this is an excellent collection of the "Velvets" that I strongly recommend, including an informative book I enjoyed, too.
