The best book on the development and opperational use of the iconic Spitfire.

This isn't a book you want to drop on your foot! In truth, it would have been better to publish 2 volumes. There's so much in it, many illustrations, diagrams and photographs are compromised to get it all between two covers. Nevertheless you aren't going to get another book about the Spitfire with more information in it. The general layout is rather dated now but the content is comprehensive. Any other book on the subject is a waste of paper.

      • Spitfire bible

This book is an unbelievable amount of work by the author’s and the time trawling through ministry , company records etc is mind blowing. I take my hat off to them . If you can find this book to buy and you want a book about everything about a spitfire then this is it

      • The Definitive Spitfire Reference

The definitive Spitfire text. Covers the design & development piece in detail, as well as the operational history. The evolution of each mark is described, down to the aircraft serial numbers. A reference book rather than a “good read” but the attention to detail is unmatched in any text I’ve come across previously. Bizarre that this book is not widely referenced. A must for those who want to get under the skin of this aeroplane.

      • The Spitfire Bible? Could be!

This is the definitive history of one of, if not the most iconic fighter of World War 2, and my personal favourite. I found it full of details relating to development of the prototype, further development as the war progressed, and the production history of all marks. I have been looking for this book for many years, and if you want to know all about this classic aircraft, I think you won't go far wrong with this

      • A classic for the Spitfire specialist

This is a technical directory and pure reference book and as such is excellent. It is not a 'ripping yarn' or even measured narrative of the development of the Spitfire in basic layman's terms. There are many other books out there that offer these things, but this is a book for the specialist. Judged within those parameters, it is definitive.
