Vehicles, parts, and accessories can be listed in the same formats as most other product categories, including auction, Buy It Now, and Best Offer.

Selling a vehicle

Creating an effective Motors listing is much like creating any other listing on eBay. Before you create one though, you'll need to gather important information about your vehicle such as year, make, model and mileage.

Tip
The VIN is usually located on the dashboard and is viewable through the windshield. The VIN is also often located on the door or engine and in your vehicle registration and title documents.

Changing the price on a vehicle listing

You can change your item's price on vehicle listings with a reserve price in some categories. However, you can only change it in these Motors categories: Cars & Trucks, Motorcycles, Other Vehicles, and Powersports.

Why revise your price?

Revising your price may increase your chances of selling your item. You can lower your reserve or Buy It Now price, add a Buy It Now price, or remove the reserve price.

Requirements

Change	What's allowed	What happens
Lowering your reserve or Buy It Now price	You can lower the reserve or Buy It Now price any time before your reserve is met, or your listing ends.	When a reserve or Buy It Now price is lowered, all bidders are notified by email, but we don't tell them what the new price is. However, if you lower the reserve or Buy It Now price below the high bidder's maximum bid, the high bidder's maximum bid is lowered to £1.00 below the new reserve price. Your new reserve price is emailed to the high bidder. This allows the high bidder to confirm that they are still interested in the item. If you lower the Buy It Now price below the reserve price, the reserve price is lowered to the same amount as the new Buy It Now price.
Adding a Buy It Now price	You can add a Buy It Now price after a listing has received bids. The new Buy It Now price can be any amount above the current high bid. This option only applies to reserve price listings that have not met the reserve price. You won't be able to add a Buy It Now price if you list your vehicle locally. Vehicles listed locally only accept Best Offers.	If the new Buy It Now price is below the reserve price, the reserve price is lowered to the same amount as the new Buy It Now price. All bidders are notified by email that a Buy It Now price has been added. For the Parts & Accessories category only, the Buy It Now Price needs to be at least 10% higher than the starting price.
Removing your reserve price	You can remove the reserve price at any time during a listing.	If you decide to remove the reserve, the reserve price is first lowered to £1.00 above the current high bid. This new reserve price is sent to the high bidder by email. This is done to confirm that the high bidder is still interested in the item. The next bid that is placed will meet the reserve, and will remove the reserve price. All bidders are notified by email that the reserve has been removed.

How to change your price

Follow these steps to revise your vehicle's price:

From My eBay, select All Selling.
In the row for the item you want to change, from the Actions dropdown menu, select Revise.
On the Revise your listing page, make your changes (grey sections can't be revised)
Select Save and Continue, then select Submit Changes.

Other terms and conditions

When you lower the reserve price, the high bidder will need to confirm their interest in winning the item — they won't automatically win the item, even if their bid was higher than the new reserve price. The high bidder may have bid on another vehicle when they didn't initially meet your reserve price. If the high bidder still wants to purchase the vehicle, they'll need to bid again at or above the new reserve price or use the Buy It Now option.

Other terms and conditions

You'll still be charged listing fees (such as a listing fee and any optional feature fees) if you end your listing early, even if you don't sell to the high bidder. If you want to change or improve your listing, consider revising your listing instead
Sellers aren't allowed to cancel bids and end listings early in order to avoid selling an item that did not meet the desired sale price. This is considered to be a violation of our reserve price policy. Although there are legitimate reasons for ending a listing early, abuse of this option will be investigated
When sellers list a vehicle on eBay Motors, they are also allowed to sell it locally, like in their local newspaper. If the vehicle sells locally, sellers are allowed to cancel all bids and end the listing early

Policies and regulations

Sellers are responsible for reviewing applicable laws. These can include seller licencing rules, title requirements, emissions standards, and registration policies.

Sellers are also required to display the Exhaust Emission Standard when listing Emissions Systems. The following types of listings are not allowed:

Deployed or rebuilt airbags and airbag covers
Recalled airbags

Selling parts and accessories

When you create a parts and accessories listing, we recommend adding Parts Compatibility (also known as "fitment"). This allows you to add all the years, makes, models, trims, and engines that your part fits (up to 1,000 or 3,000 combinations, depending on the category), which makes it easy for buyers to find the right parts for their vehicle.

When you begin to list your item, we'll show you your options in the Compatibility section of the listing form. You can either choose a product with pre-filled compatibility information or manually enter compatible vehicles.

eBay Assured Fit

With Assured Fit, eBay checks the buyer's vehicle details against the item compatibility information that you added. When there's a match, we'll cover the cost of an eBay return label if the buyer opens a return because the item doesn’t fit their vehicle (some exceptions may apply*).

Selling second hand parts

If you are selling second hand parts, you'll need to display your environmental permit numbers in your listing, so buyers know you are complying with the Environmental Permitting Regulations for storing and dismantling end of life vehicles.

If you are a vehicle part seller, you must:

Display the permit number of the site(s) where you source the vehicle part(s) you are selling
Only source the vehicle part(s) from a company or person who has a permit to depollute and dismantle ELVs (https://environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/view/search-elv - opens in new window or tab)

If you are dismantling (breaking) vehicles (ELVs) you must have a permit. If you do not have a permit – you are operating illegally. It doesn’t matter whether you are registered as a private or business seller.

Important: It is a mandatory requirement to display your environmental permit information or the permit information of your supplier in order to list second-hand parts or used car parts to sell. Failure to comply with this requirement may lead to sanctions on your account.

How to enter permit information in your Business Seller Information on your listing

In your Site Preferences - opens in new window or tab, scroll down to Business Seller Information and select Show.
Select Edit beside Display Business Seller Information on listing.
Under Additional legally required contact information, you can enter your permit information. The Vehicle Recyclers' Association recommends that business sellers display all 3 registration numbers for:
- Environment Agency Environmental Permit
- Environment Agency Waste Carriers Licence (if you collect/deliver ELVs/breakers)
- Local Authority Scrap Metal Dealer Site registration number
Once finished, select Save.

Listing in the Motorcycle Parts categories with parts compatibility

When listing in the Motorcycle Parts categories, it’s important to include what models the parts are compatible with. First of all, you may need to check the master motorcycle list.

What is the master motorcycle list (MML)?

The master motorcycle list (MML) is an up-to-date list of motorcycle models that allows a seller to show a list of all the motorcycles that a part or accessory is compatible with in a single listing.

Using the MML helps save time and money by reducing the number of listings a seller needs to manage, plus it helps buyers to find compatible parts for their motorcycle quickly and easily.

If you list within the motorcycle parts categories, use the MML so that buyers can refine their search by model to find your listing.

You should use the MML when listing in the following Vehicle Parts & Accessories subcategories:

Motorcycle Parts (10063)
Wheels, Tyres & Tubes (35578) - only if your listing is relevant to Street Motorcycles

How to list using the master motorcycle list

To create a listing, select Sell at the top of most eBay pages.
Enter a description of the item for sale, for example "brake disc”, and then select Start selling. Select the matching category for your item. Alternatively, you can manually find the correct category by selecting Browse categories.
Where possible, use eBay’s recommended values for all item specifics. To make sure buyers can find your item more easily, make sure you include all relevant part numbers.
Select Add after entering each value.
Note: When entering values under To Fit Model, make sure that the Model values entered here exactly match those in the MML.
Complete the rest of the details about your item as usual to complete the listing.

How to write an effective title and item description

Item title: Make sure you include search keywords, such as the manufacturer, type of part and OEM/OES reference number in your title. You don't need to repeat information that is already specified in the MML.

Item description: If you've used the MML to create your listing, all relevant search information will automatically be included in your listing. You don't need to repeat this in the item description, but you may want to include additional information about your item here.

Item specifics: Make sure you select item specifics for your item carefully as buyers often search for products using these filters.
